Bellevue
Schools Nationally Ranked by Newsweek
Bellevue, WA School District #405 set a
record among high schools in the U.S. with three
schools from their district in the top 18 of Newsweek's
list of America's top high schools. The
Bellevue school district, just outside of Seattle, has
been using Tools
for Teaching to train their teachers for the
past 5 years! Dr. Mike Riley, Superintendent at
Bellevue, is quoted on the back of Tools for Teaching
saying:
"Dr Jones' program has had a significant
and lasting impact on rookies as well as seasoned classroom
veterans. It produces a high rate of learning and positive
behavior from kids without making teachers work themselves
into a frazzle."

Dr. Riley first used the Fred Jones program
in 1992 while a principal in Frederick Co., MD. He then
introduced the program to Baltimore County Schools when
he was an assistant superintendent there. Baltimore County
still uses the program as the core of their New Teacher
Induction program for 1200 to 1600 new teachers each year.
When Dr. Riley moved to Bellevue in 1998,
he sent his New Teacher Trainers to Fred Jones' trainings.
Their success led to Dr. Jones training school site teams
for each school in 1999.
Bellevue continues to train new and veteran
teachers in the Fred Jones' method. Dr. Riley gives credit
to the entire district, K-12, for the high schools' successes.
